Guided Tours in the Vineyards

As a group it is also possible to explore the countryside around Salgesch with a competent guide. We offer walks lasting from about an hour to half a day.

Walks lasting 1 - 1½ hours:

Vineyard path “Durch die Hölle” in Salgesch

The name means “going through Hell” but it is much nicer than it sounds! The tour will take participants through the oldest part of the village where they can learn a lot of interesting things about wine making and village history  – all this in the wonderful setting of the vine-covered hills amongst the magnificent Valais Alps.

Up to 15 participants CHF 100.00

Each additional person CHF 5.00

Emerald Lizard Path

The path goes around the Chapel Hill in Salgesch. Participants hear valuable information about the area and wine-making in general. This path was created within the framework of a near-to-nature, careful land improvement scheme in cooperation with nature protection societies. Discover the Mediterranean landscape, the steppes and the renovated dry-stone walls with their flora and fauna.

Up to 15 participants CHF 100.00

Each additional person CHF 5.00

Walks lasting 3 -4 hours:

Discovering the grape varieties

The path through the vines links the Château de Villa in Sierre with the wine museum in Salgesch. The walk goes through vineyards in the proximity of village wine-producing quarters. Participants learn to recognise the diverse varieties of grapes and the different ways in which the vines can be trained whilst walking in a beautiful landscape. The unique flora and fauna provides many surprises.

Up to 15 participants CHF 190.00

Each additional person CHF 5.00

Discover the unique irrigation system

From the village of Varen the walk goes through the vineyards to the “Mengis” irrigation channel. These irrigation channels, locally called “Suonen”, came to be built from the necessity for farmers in Valais to get through periods of drought. The channels give the impression of a stream running right across a steep slope. To the hiker these bring welcome freshness on a hot day and make it possible for lush vegetation to grow on a south-facing slope which would otherwise be dried out by the sun.

Up to 15 participants CHF 190.00

Each additional person CHF 5.00
