It is no longer a secret that the house of Switzerland’s best winemaker of the decade knows how to press high-quality assemblage wines, at least since the multiple Swiss championship titles for the Cuv\u00e9e Madame Rosmarie Mathier white and Cuv\u00e9e Madame Rosmarie Mathier red as well as the Ambassadeur Diego Mathier white, both AOC Valais.<\/p>\n\n

With the Cuv\u00e9e Monsieur Diego Mathier red, the successful winemaker from Salgesch is now pulling the next ace up his sleeve. Because when Diego Mathier invites you to a cuv\u00e9e, you can rightly expect something special. With the new “Cuv\u00e9e Monsieur Diego Mathier red 2023”<\/strong>, the multi-award-winning Salgesch winemaker, known for his fine sense of tradition and innovation, is bringing an assemblage to the stage that is much more than just a wine – it is a statement in the style of a venerable grand seigneur. <\/p>\n\n

The grapes? Hand-picked, rigorously selected, parcel by parcel from the right bank of the Rhone – where Valais writes its best stories with stony soils, plenty of sunshine and cool winds. Vinified in stainless steel tanks, matured for 16 months in French barriques, part of the grapes passivated for that extra portion of depth. Nothing was left to chance here. <\/p>\n\n

The result: a ruby-red powerhouse with violet reflections that already promises visually what it delivers. An opulent interplay of aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, figs and dates on the nose, plus roasted aromas, vanilla, a hint of smoke, liquorice, cloves and a good twist of black pepper – Syrah and barrel ageing send their regards. <\/p>\n\n

On the palate, the Grandseigneur is supple, velvety, yet powerful and multi-layered. Merlot brings the charming roundness, Cabernet Sauvignon provides a clear edge, Syrah adds spice and depth. The slightly dried grapes contribute an elegant sweetness, which is skillfully kept in balance by fresh acidity. A wine that honors Bordeaux – and yet breathes Valais. <\/p>\n\n

Culinary? A dream with braised dishes, rack of lamb or matured blue cheese. And yes, it is also given time: the ageing potential is considerable – a wine for the moment and for the future. <\/p>\n\n
