The Humagne Rouge and Humagne blanc grape varieties sound identical in name. However, they are not genealogically related. In fact, DNA analyses carried out in 1999 proved that the red grape variety is genetically identical to the Cornalin d’Aoste variety. This is cultivated in the Aosta Valley in Italy.

The Humagne Rouge grape is an autochthonous grape variety from the Italian-Swiss Alpine region. This is dominated by aromas of black cherries, blackcurrants and plums. On the nose and palate, there is also a spicy note of pepper and cloves as well as herbal nuances that contribute to the complexity of this red wine. The tannins in Humagne Rouge are often strong, which gives the wine the necessary structure and longevity. When young, the wine may still appear somewhat taut and robust.

The fruit is ripe on the palate and the wine itself is light and dry.
