htr hotel revue, 27.10.2011 – 400 guests attended the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse gala at the Kultur-Casino Bern to honor the best Swiss wines and their makers. Diego Mathier from Salgesch was celebrated as “Winemaker of the Year”.
More than 3,000 wines were submitted to the competition by 591 winegrowers from all over Switzerland – hard work for the 160 tasters who had to find the winners at the concours organized by the wine magazine Vinum and the Valais association Vinea. In the presence of Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann and 400 guests, presenter Sven Epiney handed out trophy after trophy in Bern on Tuesday evening. Eleven categories were created to take into account the different styles of wine, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category. Diego Mathier from the Adrian Mathier Nouveau Salquenen winery in Salgesch achieved the best result with all his wines – he was crowned “Winemaker of the Year”, as in 2007. The Prix Bio Suisse went to Reynald Parmelin from Begnins for the third time in a row for his Johanniter Bio 2010. The Prix Vinissimo for the best red assemblage went to Maurice Zufferey from Sierre for the Orchis Assemblage Rouge 2009.
