Interim balance sheet from August 11, 2024

Interim balance from August 11 of the 2024 wine year

The main work for the 2024 wine year has been completed. We are at the beginning of the so-called véraison. This refers to the period in midsummer when the grapes have grown large enough for the ripening process. This process begins with the véraison, when the grapes start to lose their green color. White grapes then turn golden yellow, dark grapes first turn red and then purple.

The wine year to date has been characterized by a number of challenges. There was frost in Valais at the beginning of the year, which thankfully spared our vineyards for the most part. On the other hand, there was also some rainfall, which was an important prerequisite for the vines to get their nourishment and grow as desired. Nevertheless, plenty of water in the vineyard always means the risk of parasite infestation such as downy and powdery mildew. We have also had to face up to this, but thanks to our wide-ranging experience and prudent, forward-looking approach, we have been able to counter it proactively and have not suffered any losses.

The result is vines and grapes bursting with vigor, so we are now hoping for a warm and dry summer, followed by a beautiful autumn, so that we can start harvesting another delicious vintage in mid-September.

Until then, we look forward to welcoming you to one of the many public fairs in the fall, to our branches in Hochdorf and Interlaken or here in the picturesque wine village of Salgesch for a tasting of our wines!
