Diego Mathier from the Nouveau Salquenen winery wins the “Winery of the Year” award for the third time at the Swiss Wine Gala.
Every year it is eagerly awaited: the Swiss Wine Gala. This year it was the crowning finale to an exceptional wine year. Around 440 guests attended, including 79 nominated wineries. The jury awarded prizes to the best 39 Swiss wines in 13 categories.
Winery owner Diego Mathier has achieved the greatest success story of all. This is the third time he has won the coveted title of Swiss Winery of the Year. The cellar master from Salgesch was also able to secure the Prix Vinissimo for white wines – the jury’s favorite white wine. The Prix Vinissimo red wine was won this year by the Uvavins – Cave de la CĂ´te winery in Tolochenaz. The final special prize, the Prix Bio, was won by Bertrand Favre from the Domaine de Miolan in Choulex, Geneva, according to the press release.
The largest wine region in Switzerland, Valais, made it onto the podium 15 times, followed by Vaud with seven times and German-speaking Switzerland with six times./ip
