Benchmark in Swiss viticulture – Vinum Wine Personality 2022

The Grand Prix du Vin Suisse, co-organized by VINUM, is the most important competition for Swiss wine. No winery has been as successful in this competition as Nouveau Salquenen in Salgesch, where Diego and Nadia Mathier and their cellar master Cédric Leyat set the tone. They have won the prestigious “Winery of the Year” special prize three times (2006, 2016 and 2018), as well as dozens of category wins. Anyone who can achieve such a feat in such a large-scale blind tasting over almost 20 years is working continuously at the highest level. Yet the Mathiers’ top wines are by no means trimmed to appeal to the broad taste of wine consumers, but are independent crus with character and finesse. At the age of 52, Diego and his team are at the zenith of their work, they are the benchmark in Swiss viticulture!
