Diego Mathier and the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse undoubtedly have an enduring love story. In the 20-year history of the competition, he is the only winemaker to have won the prestigious title of “Swiss Winery of the Year” three times (2007, 2011 and 2018). Added to this are the spectacular victories in the individual categories, especially this year. With his flagship white wine, L’Ambassadeur de Diego Mathier, the 52-year-old magician from Salgesch is celebrating a double victory with the 2021 and 2020 vintages. An admirable achievement, especially when you consider that the white blend category comprised no fewer than 95 wines in this year. When two vintages of the same wine (a blend of the traditional Valais grape varieties Heida, Petite Arvine and Marsanne) receive top marks in a blind tasting, this is not only a sign of the high quality of the wine in question, but also testifies to the great professionalism of the jury. Diego Mathier does not consider himself solely responsible for this success, in which his wife Nadia and Cédric Leyat, the cellar master, undoubtedly played a large part.

Blend of the long-established Valais grape varieties Heida, Petite Arvine and Ermitage. Magnificent bouquet with aromas of white flowers, a hint of citrus fruit and beautifully integrated spicy notes. Very elegant, racy palate, salty finish. 2023 to 2028.

Slightly more restrained bouquet than the 2021 vintage. Delicate outflows of meadow flowers and hay, mineral and salty tip. Elegant spicy notes. Beautifully structured on the palate, full of opulence and straightforwardness. Delicious acidity and beautiful length. 2023 à 2027.
