Two Geneva wines were chosen at the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse on October 18. They come from two wineries that see life as a couple.
The small delegation that had made its way from Geneva to the Swiss Wine Award was hoping for awards… It was an award, and for two very closely related companies at that. At nightfall, in the magnificent setting of the Kursaal in Bern, which was filled with around 400 personalities from the wine world, Bertrand Favre (Domaine de Miolan, Choulex) received the special Bio Suisse prize for the highest-rated organic wine. He owes it to his unfiltered Chasselas. Belote et rebelote, because Sarah Meylan (Domaine de la Vigne Blanche, Cologny) also took first place with her Gamay, on a par with the Domaine de Chantemerle, which is based in Tartegnin. This result, which is quite exceptional for the wines of the canton, takes on a fairytale form. Although the two winners each kept their own winery, they have joined their destinies and are the parents of four daughters. The Geneva delegation also brought home a third place for Bertrand Favre’s Garanoir (him again) and an award for Nicolas Seiler’s Gamay (ChĂ¢teau des Bois, Satigny). The coveted title of Swiss Winery of the Year went to Diego Mathier, the famous winemaker from Salgesch (VS). D.E.
