Diego Mathier once again “Winemaker of the Year”
Diego Mathier won the prestigious “Winemaker of the Year” title for the second time.
More than 3,000 wines from 591 winegrowers from all over Switzerland were tasted by 160 tasters for the competition. These figures show how important the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse – which “Vinum”, Europe’s wine magazine, and the Valais association Vinea jointly organized for the fifth time – has become for the wine industry, but also for consumers. In order to do justice to the many different styles of wine in Switzerland, the Concours was divided into eleven categories. The three top winners in each group were honored yesterday evening at the gala in the Kulturcasino in Bern. Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, a member of the Federal Council, attended the event for the first time. He appealed to the producers not to let up in their quest for quality and to continue to make a concerted effort to promote the image of Swiss wines and defend their market share against foreign competition.
