World’s best Pinot Noir from Valais
The Mondial des Pinots wine award is the only international wine competition dedicated exclusively to Pinot Noir wines. Over 1,000 wines from more than 20 countries are tasted every year. No fewer than 335 wine producers took part in last year’s event. An international jury of experts awards gold prizes to the best Pinot Noirs submitted. The Ambassadeur de Domain Diego Mathier is the only Pinot Noir in the world to have received the gold award for every vintage since 2001. This was followed by the special “Grand Gold” award for the first time in 2019 and the “Gran Maestro des Pinot Noirs” award a year later. Gran Maestro – World Champion of Pinot Noir is awarded to the wine that achieves the highest overall score at the Mondial des Pinots over three consecutive vintages. The Ambassadeur de Domain Diego Mathier achieves full maturity and intensity by maturing for 15 months in new French oak barrels of 228 liters each. The Ambassadeur de Domain Diego Mathier owes its long shelf life to this ageing process.
