2024 vintage promises good quality
A challenging 2024 wine year with an exceptionally long ripening period
The 2024 wine year was certainly not an easy one. At the beginning, in spring, we experienced frost in Valais. However, thanks to the good vineyards, our grapes were largely spared. As the year progressed, Valais viticulture had to contend with an unprecedented intensity of downy mildew, which meant that we treated our grapes up to 10 times. This intensive cultivation guaranteed that we were able to harvest consistently healthy grapes. Even the harvest period, which lasted from September 16 to October 21 this year, was challenging. There were repeated periods of rainfall alternating with dry and warm weather.
What was particularly special about the 2024 wine year was that the grapes took an unusually long time to ripen. Instead of the usual 100 days of ripening, we recorded no less than 115 days of ripening this year. The pleasing result of this extended ripening period is that all our grapes are fully ripe and the usual Ă–chsle levels (= sugar content in the grapes) were achieved without any problems. The grapes were able to develop over a longer period of time, which significantly improved the quality of the wines, provided the right decisions were made in the vineyard at the right time. The exceptionally long ripening period of the grapes produces more intense and denser wines with plenty of tannins, pronounced color and great structure.
The first samples in the wine cellar are incredibly intense in color, fruity with an elegant, soft structure.
