"The values we live by, such as preserving tradition, will of course always be a central theme for us, but we also have a clear ambition never to preserve the ashes but only the embers and to use them in the future for the benefit of our guests and wine lovers."

Diego Mathier

Focus on quality

The strategy behind this is illustrated by just one specific example: for generations, the Mathier family has known how to acquire the best vineyards (today there are around 45 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards) in order to sustainably improve quality. However, Nadia and Diego have never rested on their laurels. Rather, their aim was to analyze the numerous vineyards in close consultation with their long-standing head oenologist in order to be able to ripen the right grape variety on the right terroir to perfection in terms of taste.

For generations

Nadia and Diego Mathier have been running the family business since the early 2000s and are now the 4th generation to do so. Thanks to their five daughters – Vanja, Larissa, Sarah, Anna and Rahel – the future of the family business will undoubtedly be female-dominated. For generations, the Mathier family has attached great importance to passing on knowledge, experience and a passion for top wines to the next generation.

Innovation as a driving force

Innovation as a driving force can also be found everywhere at the winery. When it comes to wine, be it white wine, rosé wine, red wine or sparkling wine, the uncompromising focus on creating top international wines that not only hold their own, but are among the best in the world, should certainly be mentioned here. However, this also includes the decision to significantly expand the range by switching from the cultivation of purely classic grape varieties to specialties.

Sustainability is a top priority

At the winery of Switzerland’s best winemaker of the decade, Diego Mathier, all activities are strictly aligned with strict guidelines. In addition to the production of healthy grapes, these include the preservation of the landscape and biodiversity as well as the conservation and promotion of natural resources and energy as essential cornerstones of sustainable viticulture. The Adrian & Diego Mathier Nouveau Salquenen winery has continuously received the highest award from Vitiswiss for years and also plays a pioneering role in many areas.
